Name Board - Laser etching

For this project, we worked with a 1.2mm thick stainless steel sheet coated in titanium nitride, chosen for its high reflectivity and mirror-like polish. Using precise laser etching techniques, we achieved a depth of 0.2mm, creating clean, intricate designs on the surface. To enhance the visual impact, we filled the etched areas with a vibrant automobile red paint, which contrasts beautifully with the metallic sheen. This process not only highlights the intricate detailing but also delivers a durable and striking finish suitable for a range of high-end applications.

Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coated Stainless Steel Sheet (1.2mm Thickness) with Laser Etching and Red Paint Infill

This material and process combination is ideal for creating high-end, durable, and visually striking surfaces. Here's a breakdown of the features and the process:

Material Overview:

  1. Base Material:

    • Stainless Steel (SS), 1.2mm thickness: Known for its strength, corrosion resistance, and durability.

  2. Coating:

    • Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coating: This gold-toned coating enhances the surface with additional hardness and resistance to wear, corrosion, and tarnishing. It also adds a luxurious, high-gloss finish that mimics the appearance of gold. TiN coating is often used in decorative architectural elements, luxury items, and high-performance tools.

  3. Finish:

    • High Reflective Mirror Polish: The stainless steel is polished to a mirror-like finish before the TiN coating is applied. This ensures the surface reflects light with high clarity, making it look highly reflective and premium.

Processing:

  1. Laser Etching:

    • The laser etching process is used to engrave designs or text onto the TiN-coated stainless steel surface. The laser precisely removes a layer of the TiN coating, exposing the stainless steel beneath.

    • Depth: The etching is done to a depth of 0.2mm, providing a slight but noticeable engraving, perfect for filling with paint.

  2. Paint Fill:

    • After laser etching, the etched areas are filled with automobile-grade red paint. This process adds a vibrant contrast between the gold-like TiN coating and the red etching, giving the design an eye-catching effect.

    • Automobile Red Paint: Known for its durability, weather resistance, and UV stability, this paint ensures the etched areas remain vivid and resistant to fading or chipping over time.

Applications:

  • Decorative Panels: Suitable for use in high-end architectural applications, such as wall panels, facades, and luxury interior design elements.

  • Signage: Perfect for premium branding, company logos, or signs in offices, hotels, or commercial spaces.

  • Product Branding: Ideal for luxury products where a high-quality, visually striking material finish is required.

  • Automotive and Custom Design: Can be used in vehicle customization, dashboards, or interior detailing.

Key Advantages:

  • Durability: The combination of TiN coating and stainless steel ensures a long-lasting, corrosion-resistant surface.

  • Visual Appeal: The high-gloss mirror finish, combined with the gold-like TiN coating and bold red etching, creates a luxurious and modern aesthetic.

  • Customization: Laser etching offers precision and the ability to create detailed custom designs, while the paint fill allows for further personalization.
